You set your mouse software to 800 DPI, set your in-game sensitivity to 1.0, and hop into a match. Yet compared to your previous mouse, your crosshair feels noticeably faster or floats past enemy heads. Many gamers assume they are just "off their game." In reality, they are fighting **DPI 오차율 (편차)**.
A mouse advertised as 800 DPI almost never outputs exactly 800 DPI. Depending on sensor manufacturing tolerances, lens height, and skate thickness, your mouse might actually track at 845 DPI (+5.6%) or 765 DPI (-4.4%).
First, an engineering clarification: while marketers use the term DPI (Dots Per Inch), optical gaming sensors technically measure CPI (Counts Per Inch). As your mouse moves, the optical sensor takes thousands of surface snapshots per second, measuring optical flow displacement.
The primary determinant of CPI is the physical distance between the sensor's optical prism lens and the mousepad surface. If the lens is sitting even $0.1 ext{ mm}$ closer to or farther from the surface, the projected image size shifts, causing the sensor to register more or fewer counts per physical inch of travel.
Replacing stock mouse skates (typically $0.6 ext{ mm}$) with thicker aftermarket PTFE skates ($0.8 ext{ mm}$) or thicker glass skates increases the sensor's Lift-Off Distance (LOD) and directly alters CPI scaling by 2% to 6%.
Coarse Cordura or textured hybrid pads reflect light differently than smooth cloth micro-weave pads. Surface elasticity also causes the mouse to sink slightly under downward hand pressure during intense gunfights, temporarily altering CPI scaling.
Once you know your true measured DPI, you can adjust your in-game sensitivity to perfectly preserve your muscle memory:
Corrected Sens = Nominal Sens × (Nominal DPI ÷ True DPI)
For example, if your nominal DPI is 800 but this analyzer measures your true sensor at 842.1 DPI, and your target CS2/Valorant sens is 0.350:
Corrected Sens = 0.350 × (800 ÷ 842.1) = 0.332
Optical sensor DPI (strictly CPI, or Counts Per Inch) is determined by the physical focal distance between the optical sensor lens and your mousepad surface. Minor manufacturing tolerances, aftermarket PTFE skate thickness (e.g., 0.8mm vs 0.6mm), and mousepad weave texture create optical refraction shifts that often cause 800 DPI to track at 770 DPI or 845 DPI in reality.
Place a physical ruler or credit card (8.56 cm) next to your mousepad. Enter your nominal DPI and distance, click the test area to lock your cursor, slide your mouse along the straight edge across the exact distance, and press any key or click to calculate true DPI and deviation.
